The St. Raphael Episcopal/ Lutheran Church stitchers make comfort and prayer quilts when they meet the last Monday of every month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Benson Museum Art and Quilt Gallery - the yellow building behind the museum.
Anyone who is interested in helping with the ministry is welcome. For more information about the prayer quilts or to join, call Laddie at 586-0090.

dinner on Friday
VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., is holding its weekly Friday [March 5] fundraising dinner from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., serving pork cutlets, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, salad and roll.
For takeout or more information call 586-2197. VFW also holds Sunday bingo at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens an hour prior.
Elks serving St. Patty's pancakes March 13
Benson Elks will be serving St. Patty's pancakes Saturday, March 13 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The $5 donation includes eggs, pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee or tea. Proceeds benefit club charities. Critter Sitters' March classes announced
Critter Sitters is forming the following classes for March: Control unleashed on Saturday, March 20 at 8 a.m. This class is for dogs that already know their basic commands but are distracted easily, worried, or just need to learn to pay attention to the owner.
Basic Obedience starts on Saturday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. This class is also a six-week course. Sit, down, stay, come, loose-leash walking and more will be covered.
Heel begins Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m. and fine tunes the loose leash walk through distractions and patterns. For fee and other information, call Megan at (520) 212-2233.
Benson Park & Swap held each Saturday
The Benson Park & Swap is hosting a food drive Saturday, March 6 for the Benson Food Bank. Free setup with donations of non-parishble food items.
The Food Bank will be there and miscelanous vendors. Accepting household items for re-sale to raise money for the Food Banks. $1 buys nine cans of food to feed the hungry. To reserve a spot call Iris (520) 586-3398.

March is Arts Month;
features an array of events
Teens from across the County will be participating in an art competition to be held at the City Hall Gallery in Benson. This show will be up for the entire month of March and will be open to the public when there are activities in the City Hall Chambers, and on Saturday afternoons throughout March, or by appointment (520-720-6331). The award ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 28, at 4 p.m. at City Hall Gallery.
Also during the entire month, there will be a Visual Art and Photography Show at cochise College Benson Center for adults throughout the County. The award ceremony for this show will be on March 20, 2010 at 4 p.m., just prior to the performance of the Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo High School Mariachi Band.
March 13 will be the opening day for events coming up at Cochise College. Programs for these events can be obtained from the Visitor Center, and various other venues about Benson and throughout the county or from the Web site sprarts.org. Most events and classes are free.

Scholastic Book Fair
at Visions Unlimited
Visions Unlimited Academy will host a Scholastic Book Fair March 8-12. Families, teachers, and the community are invited to attend the Book Fair March 11, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be an art show on display created by students from Visions Unlimited Academy, Presbyterian Preschool, and Pomerene School.
Visions Unlimited Academy is located at 1275 E. Barney Lane Benson.
Knitting, 'chicken doll'
classes at quilt gallery
Classes in knitting and "chicken doll" will be held this and next month at Benson Museum's Art and Quilt Gallery, 267 E. 5th St.
Knitting, on March 27, will consist of a "cable and color" class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Saturday, April 10 and April 17, there will be a "chicken doll" class. Stop by the gallery to see their chicken on display. Call 586-9313 for all class information.
Benson Lions host all-you-can-eat breakfast
Benson Lions Club is hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake, eggs, bacon, coffee, tea and juice breakfast, 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the club, 599 S. Dragoon St., on Sunday, March 7.
The Lions also host Bingo every Friday night. Kitchen open from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.. Early bird games begin at 6:30 p.m.
Apache Mobile Home Park yard, bake sale set
Apache Mobile Home Park in St. David is holding its annual spring yard, bake and craft sale Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6, beginning at 8 a.m. The park is located off Patton Street (Hwy. 80).

Elks to install officers

The Benson Elks Lodge will install officers for the year 2010-2011 on Sunday, March 28 at the Elks/Masonic Lodge on Foothill Drive in Benson at 3 p.m.
The event is open to the public. A prime rib or salmon dinner will be served following the ceremony at San Pedro Golf Course Ironwood Grill on Madison Street in Benson. Cost of the dinner is $12.50 each and must be pre-paid. Reservations must be made by contacting the club secretary at (520) 586-6162.
Cochise Terrace Helping Hands Benefit Auction
The Annual Helping Hands at Cochise Terrace Benefit Auction of goods and services, their "priceless' yard sale and silent auction will be held Saturday, March 13 at Cochise Terrace Resort in Benson.
Proceeds to benefit Senior Meals Program and San Pedro Family Resource Council. Helping Hands auction has raised more than $40,000 for people in need in the San Pedro Valley.
Priceless yard sale begins at 10 a.m., with preview. Lunch and entertainment begin at 11 a.m. Main auction begins promptly at noon.
The event will be held in the barn at Cochise Terrace RV Resort of Route 90, a mile south of the I-10-SR 90 junction.
