Two illegal immigrants are in custody following a robbery Friday in Cochise.

Gilberto Quiroz-Moreno, 28, and Fernando Quiroz-Moreno 36, from Agua Prieta, Mexico, were charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping, and two counts of burglary, said Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff's Office.

Both subjects are being held without bond, she said.

In a statement issued Monday morning, Capas gave the following account of the incident:

The sheriff's office received the call at about noon Friday from the small community southwest of Willcox.

Deputies responding to the residence found a 71-year-old man in the bedroom who had been tied up with duct tape.

The victim said that the Quiroz-Morenos came to his home on Thursday night, asking for food and water.

He told deputies that he had given them the food and allowed them to make several phone calls to Mexico and Douglas looking for a ride south.

The victim also told the Quiroz-Morenos that they could stay outside of his home throughout the night, which they did.

On Friday morning one of the men asked the victim to heat up some food that he had gotten from a neighbor.

The victim then reportedly went inside his home, closing the door behind him and went into the kitchen to heat the food.

The Quiroz-Morenos then entered the home, without his knowledge or consent, and approached him in the kitchen.

Once inside, the men grabbed the victim from behind while they held a knife to his throat and threatened him.

The Quiroz-Morenos then bound his feet with the duct tape, also taping his mouth, and put him on the bed in his room.

The victim told deputies that the two men then took a handgun and some cash from his home before leaving the scene in his 1965 Volvo.

He struggled to get off of the bed and began licking the inside of the tape to loosen it from his mouth.

The victim was able to get the tape away from his mouth and pull the phone off the side table before dialing 9-1-1 with his tongue.

Upon arrival, deputies found him still restrained with the tape on his hands and feet.

With the information provided, the sheriff's office issued an attempt to locate for the vehicle to all local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies within Cochise County, Pima County, and Hidalgo County, New Mexico.

At about 1 p.m., the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that they were behind the stolen vehicle in Douglas and deputies responded.

The vehicle was stopped and the Quiroz-Morenos were taken into custody and booked into the Cochise County Jail.

The investigation continues.
