Benson lost one of its oldest residents last Tuesday, when George Peterson died at 101.
Peterson touched the lives of many in the San Pedro Resort Community, where he spent the last years of his life.
Close friend Arlene Holcomb said instead of mourning the loss, park residents planned on a celebration of life.
In October Peterson celebrated turning 101 and enjoyed dancing with the ladies of the park. Later, he talked about his long, happy life.
Peterson served in the Navy, and he traveled around the country doing various jobs and spent some time in Japan.
Peterson lived through 19 U.S. presidents, and was around for many of the county's historic moments.
But, in the end, Peterson said the secret to a long, healthy life is a lot of exercise, and watching what you eat.
"Anyone who keeps their weight down has it real good," he advised in his final interview. "Don't wait until you are 80 years old and then expect to be slim and trim. You have to work at it."
Holcomb said they will miss Peterson, and miss him at the weekly dinners at the VFW.
