The San Pedro River Arts Council is partnering with the Benson/San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce and Cochise College Benson Center to celebrate the arts.

With March deemed arts month, Cochise College will be hosting a special event from March 13-20.

Award-winning Tucson novelist Nancy Turner is among the presenters who will participate in Celebrate the Arts, a week of free live performances, a juried art show, creative workshops and youth programming.

The week of events will be kicked off on Saturday, March 13, at 5 p.m. with the keynote address from Cochise College President J.D. Rottweiler, with a reception featuring the culinary artistry of Benson and St. David high school students to follow.

Turner, a fiction author, will lead a book discussion and autograph books during a presentation at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 19. Turner is the author of "These is My Words," "Sara's Quilt" and "The Star Garden."

The rest of the week will feature artistic performances by painter Clement Scott, literary performer Don Edwards, author and artist Ron Fritts, barbershop-style performers The Minstrels, and youth mariachi Aztlan of Pueblo High School.

A vegetable stamp and printing class will be offered for area youth on Tuesday, and a variety of creative adult workshops have been scheduled throughout the week.

A detailed schedule of events is available at the Cochise College Benson Center, located at 1025 State Route 90, or at local libraries throughout Cochise County.
