Workers' protections were put in place for a reason
Not too long ago it was a common contention that working for the government offered more security than compensation compared to a private sector job. If you landed employment for a state agency, for example, the pay might not be as much as you would make doing the same work in the private sector, but at least the benefits were good and you had a sense of job security. Public sector jobs usually included an appeals process and other protections designed to prevent the influence of politics in the hiring and firing process.
